Fall Tree Sale: Watch Your Investment Grow

Maryland licensed, non-profit plant dealer Parks & People has partnered with plant nursery RPM (Root Production Method) Ecosystems to provide Baltimore citizens with native, affordable trees in an effort to green the city.

RPM’s eleven plant species are all genetically unmodified and grown in organic soil. Perusing YouTube I came across this video and was simultaneously impressed and amused. The Bronx Zoo has come up with a unique way of dealing with human waste that is both efficient and environmentally friendly. And they provide you with reading material during the process…

In addition to the fungi, bubbles, and bio-friendly soap, the zoo’s Eco-Bathroom also utilizes natural daylight and high efficiency light bulbs, harvested rain water, and boasts a radiant heat system in the floor.

Baltimore’s Branching Out

Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots initiative has flourished internationally since its inception in Tanzania in 1991. Connecting United States pre-teens and teens to over 150,000 of their peers in 110 countries, its philosophy (“Knowledge, Compassion, Action”) has inspired young people across the globe to flex their prepubescent green muscles—and some of these budding environmentalists can be found right here in Baltimore.

With academic resources and project ideas easily accessible online, Roots and Shoots has made it relatively easy for our schools to integrate environmentally conscious activities into curricula. Constructing reusable bags or recyclable paper doves for international peace days are two of the most widespread campaigns, but groups (school sponsored or otherwise) are also free to come up with their own projects.
